After spending the last ten seasons playing professionally in North America between the NHL and AHL, former Vancouver Canucks forward Josh Leivo has decided to continue his career overseas.

On Friday, it was announced that Leivo had agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the KHL.

"I decided to sign a contract with Salavat because I know one distinctive feature of the club. There is a great team here that wants to win. Our desires coincide in this. My friend Ryan Murphy played in Ufa last season and spoke very flatteringly about the organization and the club." Leivo said.

He went on to add, "I want to get off to a good start, gain momentum, have a strong playoff run and, of course, win a trophy. This is a new stage for me, I feel pleasant excitement."

Leivo, a native of Innisfil, Ontario, spent parts of two seasons with the Canucks in 2018-19 and 2019-20, where he put up 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists), 29 penalty minutes and was a plus-four.
