The University of Vermont announced this week that they've fired Todd Woodcroft, brother of Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft, following an investigation into him allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a student.

"The specific conduct leading to the investigation involved inappropriate text messages with a UVM student on multiple occasions that failed to maintain professional boundaries," the university's statement said.

Woodcroft's attorney said they plan on seeking justice for the former head coach and disagreed with the findings in the investigation.

"We vehemently disagree with the process and the findings of a proceeding that lacked fundamental fairness and due process," Woodcroft's attorney said. "We strongly believe the University's decision was contrary to the facts and the law. We intend to pursue justice for Mr. Woodcroft, who has been an outstanding coach and community advocate for over two decades."

The 50-year-old was with Vermont's program since 2020, joining them after four seasons as an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets. He's also been an assistant coach for the Belarus national team on three separate occasions, as well as for Sweden, where he was behind their bench for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and their gold medal win at the 2017 IIHF World Championship.
