MAJOR | Big development in the Canucks latest trade with the Red Wings for Filip Hronek

Patrik Allvin pulled a big deal out of his pockets when he traded the Islanders' 1st Round Pick and their 2nd Round Pick to the Detroit Red Wings in return for the 25-year-old Filip Hronek.

Allvin was taking shots for failing to protect this pick in such a deep draft, especially after the Islanders had themselves protected this pick from the top 12. Last night the Isles were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes which therefore confirmed the position of their pick in the draft.

''Islanders officially eliminated, so the Red Wings' second first-round pick will be no later than 18 (it will likely be 18, but can become 17 if the Panthers make a run to the ECF)''

The Canucks will have ended up giving up the 18th along with the 43rd overall pick in the 2023 selection. This would be the equivalent of trading Dawson Mercer and Emil Heineman (2020's 18th and 43rd) if you look at the best picks that were made with these selections over the last 5 years.

According to multiple mock drafts, it is expected that youngsters like Matthew Wood, Axel Sandin Pellika, and Dmitri Simashev are expected to be available at the 18th rank. Now that we'll hold more information, is it fair to say the Canucks had the upper hand in this one? Or should've they kept the pick?
