LATEST | Avalanche deploy unusual tactics following game in Vancouver: The mind games have begun
The Colorado Avalanche have had a pretty successful road trip as of Saturday afternoon, defeating the Calgary Flames on Tuesday and then, 24 hours later, taking down the Canucks in overtime at Rogers Arena.
Following the win over the Vancouver Canucks, the Colorado Avalanche decided to remain in British Columbia rather than fly to Edmonton in preparation for Saturday night's game against the Oilers.
According to Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver, the Avalanche remained in Vancouver and held a closed-door practice at the University of British Columbia, with security not allowing anyone in.
"Colorado Avalanche holding a closed practice with security on one sheet at UBC while #Canucks practice on another this morning"
Mark Spector of Sportsnet added that the Avalanche flew out of Vancouver following their practice on Friday and landed in Edmonton later.
"Avs stayed in Vancouver after Canucks game and flew into EDM after practice Friday.
Held a 'closed practice.'"
This is so unusual because teams will usually fly out after a game to head either back home or to the location of their next opponent. They almost never stay an extra day and even go as far as holding a closed-door practice in the city.
It'll be interesting to see if the Vancouver Canucks end up meeting the Colorado Avalanche at some point during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Avalanche swept the season series 3-0-0, with Vancouver's only point of the three contests coming during Wednesday's overtime loss.
