On Saturday night, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and the Florida Panthers advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the second year in a row and yesterday, the Western Conference Final had an opportunity to come to a close.
While he hasn't played since April 18th, Sam Gagner is on the Edmonton Oilers' roster for this playoff run and could be a useful fourth line piece if someone gets injured. With a win on Sunday night, not only would the Oilers advance to their first Stanley Cup Final in 18 years, it would be the first trip there for Gagner in his 17-year NHL career.
The Oilers scored twice in first period thanks to goals from Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman and despite only having 10 shots in the entire game, Edmonton got the win and will play for the Stanley Cup with Game 1 set for Saturday night.
For Sam Gagner, if he finds his way into the lineup for at least one game in the Stanley Cup Final and the Oilers win it all, he'll have his name engraved on the greatest trophy in all of sports. However, even if he doesn't play, which is probably the more likely scenario, he could still have his named engraved on the Stanley Cup if the Oilers submit a special request to the league. There's a very good possibility of that happening given the fact he's spent parts of ten seasons, across three separate stints, in Edmonton, the team that drafted him 6th overall back in 2007.
