LATEST | Former NHLer tragically passes away following accident during a game
We have some sad news to report on in the hockey world on Sunday morning.
The Nottingham Panthers, a team in the EIHL, announced on Sunday that former NHLer Adam Johnson has passed away after a freak accident during a game on Saturday against the Sheffield Steelers.
"The Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night."
Johnson was involved in a freak accident during the game on Saturday with a player on the Sheffield Steelers, which saw his neck cut by a skate. The game was immediately stopped while medical staff attended to Johnson, and the fans were told to evacuate the arena.
Because of how graphic it is and out of respect for his family and friends, we will not be sharing the video. Instead, we will share a video of a happier time in Johnson's career - his first NHL goal.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with Johnson's family and friends, as well as the Sheffield Steelers and their supporters at this challenging time.
