LATEST | Journalist shares the three main things to keep an eye on during training camp
The Vancouver Canucks are set to open training camp in just over a week and there's a lot to look forward to this season as they look to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020.
There's going to be plenty of individual matchups to watch in training camp as well as several players try to win depth positions on forward and defence, as well as for the backup role behind Thatcher Demko.
Canucks Army has shared three things to watch as we head into training camp:
- Brock Boeser having the opportunity to win the first line right-wing position, but will have some competition with Anthony Beauvillier. Ilya Mikheyev's status is unclear, so at this time, they believe Boeser will be playing on Elias Pettersson's right side.

- A defensive partner for Quinn Hughes. There are likely only two options for who may play beside Quinn Hughes once opening night rolls around. Those two names are Filip Hronek and Ian Cole, both of whom will get several opportunities during training camp and preseason games to prove they can handle being on the team's top pairing.
- Who claims the third line center role. This has been a question many Canucks fans and media members have been wondering all summer long. This summer, Patrik Allvin went out and signed Stanley Cup champion Teddy Blueger, as well as former Blackhawks and Red Wings forward Pius Suter. There's no doubt that they'll both get several reps during preseason games to win the job and that they're both worthy of winning the role, which will make this one of the more interesting things to watch throughout training camp.
As mentioned, the Canucks are set to open training camp in just over a week and will play their first game of the preseason in exactly two weeks, September 24th, against the Calgary Flames.
