LATEST | Statement from Elias Pettersson points out precisely the reasons why he's holding out
It caused a stir in the NHL and it's surroundings when the Canucks' superstar opened up regarding his contract negotiations stating that he'd be holding back on the talks, for now.
Elias Pettersson has entered the last year of a three-year-deal in which he carried a $7.35M cap hit which will make him a restricted free agent at the end of the season. A statement given by Pettersson himself has resurfaced, dating back to when he inked his current deal, and it clearly shows why he's decided to hold out:
The Canucks' number 40 highlighted the importance of playing meaningful games and having the opportunity to win games. The team has not yet showed the results he had hoped for. However, after his interview with Eliotte Friedman, the insider gave his thoughts and it's promising still.
During his 32 Thoughts Podcast, he said that he didn't think the Swede was closing the door on the Canucks and that he was only waiting to see the results.
Allvin and Rutherford took steps toward the playoffs this off-season with big acquisitions. Hopefully, this translates to better results on the ice.
