Quinn Hughes gives his first comments as the Canucks' Captain
Quinn Hughes being named the 15th captain in Vancouver Canucks history is obviously a big deal. Hughes has now spoken on the major news that was announced today.
Hughes had previously commented on the potential opportunity of being captain, saying "To be a captain is an extraordinary honour,» and "it's really special..." but Hughes downplayed the honour, saying it wasn't his main focus.
After being named captain, Kate Pettersen reported that Hughes said "When I came here 5 years ago, I knew what I was walking in to... just a crazy hockey market and a passionate fan base... It has been a pleasure and treat to play for this franchise and to be the captain is something that is incredibly special and something that I couldn't ever imagine would happen.»
Hughes can finally get back to focusing on hockey. As captain, he will need to help direct the team into a winning culture. It starts right from today, something that Hughes knows. Hughes said «We are really competitive...I want to be a part of this group and want us to win games. For everyone to show up early shows just how committed everyone is..."
The Canucks and Hughes will look to set the tone early as Hughes will have his debut as captain on October 11th in Vancouver.
