Bad news for Chris Tanev: Season-ending injury?
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 5-2 to even the Western Conference Final at two games apiece. On the losing side of that game was former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Chris Tanev, who exited the game during the second period after blocking a shot with his right foot. A picture of Tanev in a walking boot has seemingly confirmed the injury.
Tanev was acquired from the Calgary Flames midway through this season and has fit in quite nicely with the Stars as a shutdown defender. He boasts a lone assist while playing in all 17 Stars playoff games.
Coach Pete DeBoer reportedly has his «fingers crossed» that his valuable defenseman will be available for a crucial Game 5 at home at American Airlines Center on Friday night. Tanev has not won a Stanley Cup in his career and is in the midst of searching for his first one.
The Toronto native, who's brother Brandon plays for the Seattle Kraken, began his NHL career with the Canucks in 2010 and spent a full decade with the team before signing with the Flames prior to the 2021-21 season. His trade to Dallas marks the first time the bruising rearguard has not played for a western Canadian team.
