Miller, Pettersson Sweepstakes: Boston Bruins Linked to Potential Blockbuster Trade with Vancouver Canucks
With less than 60 days to go until the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season, action is expected to pick up in the coming weeks, with the Vancouver Canucks likely to be involved in some way.
The Vancouver Canucks currently occupy the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, are 14 points back of the Vegas Golden Knights for first place in the Pacific Division and at this time, it's unclear which direction the team might take at the trade deadline.
In the last week, it was revealed by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman that the Vancouver Canucks are exploring the market for both J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, with a rumored rift between the two players being reported over the last little while.
"Canucks are definitely looking at the market for both players (Miller/Pettersson) & you should be prepared for all outcomes." Friedman said on Saturday.
Since Friedman's report on Saturday night, Josh Yohe of The Athletic shared that the Vancouver Canucks were contacted by the New York Rangers who offered a 1-for-1 trade involving J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad.
The Vancouver Canucks reportedly turned down that offer, but it appears that another Eastern Conference team has begun trade talks with General Manager Patrik Allvin.
Boston Bruins reportedly talking trade with Vancouver Canucks
Despite sitting third in the Atlantic Division, the Boston Bruins have had a tough 2024-25 season and there's no doubt that General Manager Don Sweeney would like to add a centerman to his roster before March 7th.
Marco D'Amico of RG.org was told by a source that the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins are talking trade, with Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller being two names that the Bs are pursuing.
"They're talking to them," An NHL source told D'Amico.
When asked about which player the Bruins are targeting, the source said, "I don't know who for sure, but I know the Bruins want to get deeper and younger up the middle and not older.
That seems like Pettersson, but it's not about who they want; it's about who the Canucks decide to move on from."
The New York Rangers and Boston Bruins likely won't be the only teams that'll have interest in J.T. Miller and/or Elias Pettersson over the coming weeks and it's going to be interesting to see what happens ahead of the trade deadline on Friday, March 7th.
