After Team USA won the Gold Medal for the first time in 91-years at the IIHF Hockey World Championships, Vancouver Canucks forwards Drew O'Connor, Connor Garland and the rest of the team did something so special for late teammate Johnny Gaudreau.

With the Vancouver Canucks missing the playoffs, it gave the opportunity to many players to over and compete for their respective countries in order to try and salvage somewhat of a dissapi8itng season in the NHL.
Conor Garland and Drew O'Connor were among many who competed, eventually winning goal in overtime over Team Switzerland, who had a dominant tournament and were the favorites coming into it.
The last time American was gold was back in 1933, which is even before the original 6 teams era in the NHL.
In fact, Team USA hasn't even played in a gold-medal game at the tournament since 1934, though they won two silver medals in round-robin tournaments that did not feature a championship game.

Most notably, when the team was accepting the trophy, Conor Garland and the rest of the USA leader group decided to honour thee late Johnny Gaudreau by holding up his jersey in front of the award.
For Johnny ❤️🤍💙
Johnny Gaudreau would easily have been a major part of the USA team, but you can tell by their ceremony, that his passing and what he meant as a person and player carried them through the tournament.
Rest in peace once again to Johnny Hockey and congratulations to Team USA on their Gold Medal Win.
