Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland was asked about his future with the team during an interview this week as he enters the final year of his contract in the fall.

The Vancouver Canucks have a busy summer ahead of them with the futures of Brock Boeser and Pius Suter, among others, still needing to be decided, while the management group scours the market for help down the middle, with a second line centerman being their target.
While contract negotiations could happen with some players who are eligible to sign extensions this summer, such as Conor Garland, it likely won't be too much of a priority and recently, the 29-year-old was asked about his future with the Vancouver Canucks.

Conor Garland opens up on future with the Vancouver Canucks

During an interview with Donnie & Dhali while at the IIHF World Championship, Conor Garland discussed his his thoughts on Rick Tocchet's departure from the Vancouver Canucks, as well as his own future with the organization as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent in less than 14 months.
Garland shared how much he loves the City of Vancouver and being a member of the Canucks, but said he's not too involved when it comes to matters relating to his contract, leaving that to his agent so that he can focus on just playing hockey and being at the best he can be on the ice.
"I love Vancouver. It's a great city. I really warmed up to it last year, obviously winning helps, but this year, I just really enjoy the city, living in it, having a son this year and having a place where I can take him and walk. I find it a lot like Boston, very opposite side of the continent, but you know, I've got a great agent, he handles that stuff, I just play hockey and that's what I love doing and enjoy doing and that's how I look at it, that's up to him." Garland said.
Garland, a native of Scituate, Massachusetts, is coming off another solid year for the Vancouver Canucks and his second 50+ point season since joining the team via trade in the summer of 2021 from Arizona.
Keeping Conor Garland around, even on a contract in the range of 3-5 years for $6 million annually, would be ideal for the Vancouver Canucks given what he's brought to the organization and with the salary cap going up to above $100 million next summer, the team should have more than enough space to get a deal done.
However, if Garland has a strong year in 2025-26, there's no doubt he'll want to test the free agent market on July 1st, 2026 and see if he can land a long-term deal at a higher AAV than the $4.95 million he's currently earning.
