An Eastern Conference club is reportedly in the mix for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson, who has seen his name re-emerge in trade rumors of late.

Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is no stranger to trade rumors especially after last season when the club tested the market for both him and J.T. Miller after Christmas due to their reported feud, ultimately dealing the latter to the New York Rangers.
Rumors began to cool down after the Miller deal and once the trade deadline passed, allowing Elias Pettersson to have a strong month of March, before seeing his season end early due to an injury.
After a slow start this season, the 27-year-old has turned things around and following the news that Vancouver Canucks made veteran players & pending unrestricted free agents available, it appears that Elias Pettersson might be back on the trade block.

Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet released his first trade bait board of the 2025-26 season earlier this week and among the names mentioned is Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson, who was the second player mentioned by the former NHLer, following Jordan Binnington of the St. Louis Blues.
"This wouldn't be an imminent move, as the Canucks still need to be convinced that this season has truly been lost. It's believed the Hurricanes and Canucks have had discussions about Pettersson in the past and there's no reason to believe there isn't an ongoing dialogue. Vancouver would have interest in Andrei Svechnikov, but that won't solve their issues down the middle." Kypreos said.

Trading Elias Pettersson certainly isn't at the top of Patrik Allvin & Jim Rutherford's to-do-list at the moment, unless they're presented with an offer they can't refuse and perhaps that could involve the Carolina Hurricanes with Andrei Svechnikov as part of the return.
However, trading Elias Pettersson is easier said than done for a couple of reasons, firstly due to his massive $11.6 million cap hit for the 2025-26 campaign and six seasons afterwards.
The Sundsvall, Sweden native also has a full no-movement clause, meaning that he'll dictate where he wants to go and where he doesn't, so if the Vancouver Canucks get an offer that they really, really like and it happens to be a team that Pettersson isn't will to waive his NMC for, then Patrik Allvin would have to go back to the drawing board.
To temper expectations a little bit, it's hard to see an Elias Pettersson trade getting completed during the season, but if the Canucks aren't satisfied with how things are working out, then we could see this situation re-evaluated in the summer.
