A former Vancouver Canucks defenseman is reportedly being shopped by the Edmonton Oilers, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed on Saturday night.
The National Hockey League's 2025-26 season is almost officially one month old and it's quite interesting to see where some teams are in the standings at this point, including the Vancouver Canucks, who have been inconsistent to start the year and are 6-7-0 through 12 games.
While Vancouver's search on the trade market has been focused around forwards, especially centermen, if the club wants to add some more depth on the blue line, it looks like a former Canuck has become available.

After appearing in just six of Edmonton's 13 games so far this season where he's average just over 13:30 per night,
Troy Stecher's time with the Oilers might be coming to a close in the near future.
During the Saturday Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Edmonton Oilers are shopping Troy Stecher and there is already interest from other teams, who remain unknown at this time.
"Well they have a lot of players coming back from injury right? Hyman can come back, Janmark can come back, Regula can come back. One of the names that's definitely going around there is Troy Stecher and Stecher is not playing tonight in our late game against Chicago. He's the extra D and they have a couple extra right now." Friedman said.
He added, "Now, it doesn't necessarily have to be Stecher, Ron, like I think the Oilers have considered a bunch of things, but he is definitely one of the people who is being considered. I've heard there is some interest and I think the Oilers are trying to find him a soft landing."
Stecher, a native of Richmond, British Columbia, is in the final year of his contract which comes with a cap hit of $787,500 and is set to become a UFA on Canada Day, so for contending teams in need of someone for their third pairing or a seventh defenseman, he could potentially be a good, cheap fit.
Given Vancouver's defensive situation right now, unless Adam Foote and Patrik Allvin wanted to keep Victor Mancini down in the American Hockey League to continue his development once he returns from injury, it seems unlikely that they'd be among teams interest, but, never say never.
