Former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau Holds Nothing Back While Slamming Vancouver Media
Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau slammed the media in a interview on the NHL Network's First Shift podcast.
Speaking with the media is something that a head coach in the National Hockey League has to deal with on a daily basis and twice on game days (pre-game and post-game).
Working as the head coach of a team in a Canadian city comes with added pressure, especially from the media in that market and nationally, who cover the team 24/7.
Ex-Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau slams media in Vancouver
Bruce Boudreau, who spent a season and a half as the bench boss of the Vancouver Canucks, spoke with the First Shift podcast on the NHL Network where he opened up about the media in that B.C. city.
Boudreau says that the media in Vancouver is "nuts" and they blow every story out of proportion, but added that he knew what he was getting into prior to joining the team in December 2021.
"Because the media in Vancouver is nuts. They take everything, and they build everything out of proportion," Boudreau said.
"Every hockey player that's out there has played on a team that's not everybody has gotten along, and they've got different personalities. But once you get on the ice, you're all like you're not sitting there hoping the other guy fails. It just doesn't happen on the rope."
Boudreau went on to add, "It's not just since I've been let go; this has been going on in Vancouver. When I was in Washington and in Minnesota, they say, 'Well, you think the press is bad here? Wait till you go to Vancouver and see what's going on there.' So, I mean, it's always they blow things out of proportion."
While Bruce Boudreau might have a point about blowing things out of proportion, that's not limited to just the media in Vancouver and it happens quite a lot around the National Hockey League in bigger markets, but because it's a Canadian city, it's heard about more often.
There's also numerous members of the Vancouver media who do a fantastic job of covering the team and keeping the fans informed of what's going on with the team every day.
Boudreau's comments might not sit too well with those media members in Vancouver, but he has first-hand experience dealing with them during his time with the organization and likes to tell it as it is.
