Vancouver Canucks head coach has visibly given up as he makes two inexcusable mistake against the Winnipeg Jets that have crushed any hopes or chances at making the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Speculation has already started that head coach Rick Tocchet may not be returning as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks as they have an option at the end of the season to reup his contract.
The biggest telling point is when Tocchet publicly came out and said he would not be engaging in any contract talks general manager Patrik Allvin and the Canucks until the season concludes.
"We have a club option for next year. I think with the relationship we have (with Tocchet) and the trust we have and the communication, I think when the time is right for both of us, and then obviously the ownership, we'll look into that." Allvin said.

In a do or die matchup with one of the best teams in the leagues, it was clear that to win was going to be an up hill battle.
Unfortunately as the game was drawing to a close, Rick Tocchet's mistake created confusion on the bench that led to a too many men penalty, where 7 Canucks were on the ice at the same time...

Trailing by two, this costly mistake basically solidified their fate at being able to make a late comeback, which in turn has decreased their chances of making the playoffs to a point that is insurmountable.
If that wasn't bad enough, Tocchet really showed his true colours and gave up on his team, not even pulling Thatcher Demko in the 3rd to even try and square that game up at 3.

Instead, he accepted the teams fate, which speaks volumes on his interest on staying behind the bench for the Canucks next season.
