It was a special night for Jake DeBrusk on Tuesday as the Vancouver Canucks forward returned to his old stomping grounds, Boston's TD Garden, for the first time since leaving the Bruins as an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Returning to face your former team for the first time is always an emotional moment for a player, which usually features a video tribute, as was the case last night for not only Jake DeBrusk, but Danton Heinen too.
It also gives the player an opportunity to prove their former employer wrong for either trading them away or not signing them before free agency, and that's exactly what Jake DeBrusk did last night.
Early in the second period, DeBrusk picked up a loose puck in front of the Bruins net after a point shot while on the powerplay and tapped it past Jeremy Swayman to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead.
DeBrusk's goal would go on to stand as the game-winner, with Vancouver defeating the Boston Bruins by a score of 2-0.
After the game, DeBrusk met with reporters to discuss his return to Boston and TD Garden when he was asked if any of his former teammates chirped him at all during the game.
DeBrusk initially said no, that he didn't get any chirps, but quickly remembered that Charlie Coyle, jokingly, called him a scumbag, adding that that's what they'd call each other when playing together in Boston, according to Conor Ryan.
The Vancouver Canucks and Jake DeBrusk have a quick turnaround as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight 4:30 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
