New development indicates Rick Tocchet leaving the Vancouver Canucks to join the New York Rangers
As the Vancouver Canucks season has come to an end, it is time to address the elephants in the room, one being the priority of trying to re-sign head coach Rick Tocchet after one of the worst years in recent memory.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Rick Tocchet's future with the Vancouver Canucks ever since it was made clear he would not be negotiating with general manager Patrik Allvin during the season.
Those rumors have only ramped up even more now that the season is concluded.
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet linked to the New York Rangers
With his uncertain future, the recent firing of coach Peter Laviolette has ramped up the talks on who Chris Drury and the New York Rangers will get to replace him, one name being the very sought after Rick Tocchet.
«The Canucks coach interviewed for the Rangers job that went to Gallant four years ago so Drury is familiar with him,» Arthur Staple of The Athletic wrote. «Tocchet's work in Vancouver, where current Ranger J.T. Miller was a fan, has probably helped his standing around the league. The Canucks reportedly want to keep Tocchet, but the 61-year-old may be looking for a different option.
Before this connection, many rumored that Tocchet was holding out on negotiating a new contract in order to join the Philadelphia Flyers after John Tortorella was fired late in the season, but as if right now there has been no progress on that .
«Many have connected him to the Philadelphia Flyers job, but the Rangers might interest him as well. Tocchet had to handle plenty of drama in Vancouver; drama is the Rangers' default setting these days, so maybe he'd prefer someplace a bit calmer.»

The next few weeks will be interesting to see what direction the Canucks and Tocchet go in, especially after it was reported a monster contracted was offered to him this past week.
