An insider has revealed that the Vancouver Canucks may be trying to move on from forward Conor Garland as Patrik Allvin continues to look for upgrades to his roster.

Heading into the offseason, the Vancouver Canucks had a big decision to make regarding a few players on their roster that would be entering the 2025-26 campaign as pending UFAs, including forward Conor Garland.
Instead of dragging it out all summer, Patrik Allvin got to work right away and managed to sign Conor Garland to a six-year extension worth $6 million annually on Canada Day.
"Conor is a core member of our hockey team and a player who has taken on a bigger role with the club the past couple seasons. His commitment to us by signing this deal shows how confident he is in our organization's vision and direction. He competes hard every day, drives play on the ice, is relentless on the forecheck and is really tough to play against. Gars is an emerging leader in the group and works extremely hard to keep himself and the players around him accountable." Allvin said back on July 1st.

With a little over seven months until Conor Garland's new contract comes into effect, it looks like there's some talk about him being used as a trade chip for the club this season.

Vancouver Canucks reportedly using Conor Garland as trade bait

According to Patrick Johnston of The Province, sources say that the Vancouver Canucks are considering using Conor Garland as trade bait to help them get a younger impact player.
"What if they were to trade Conor Garland, for instance. The veteran winger is playing well, as he always does, and did sign a six-year contract extension just this past summer. The Canucks love what he brings to the lineup every night. But if the task is to find younger players to add to the mix, dealing a guy like Garland may be unavoidable. A pair of league sources suggested the Canucks may already be considering such a move." Johnston said.

Garland, a native of Scituate, Massachusetts, is in his fifth campaign with the Vancouver Canucks and has been a key producer for the club in a middle-six role, recording 46 or more points in each of his four seasons in the Lower Mainland.
Trading Garland won't be easy though, mainly due to his contract/salary beyond this season, but one team that would be interesting to see if they'd have any interest is the Boston Bruins, allowing the Canucks forward to return home, while Patrik Allvin, who would likely have to attach another asset to a hypothetical deal, could try for Pavel Zacha.
