MAJOR | The details to Elias Pettersson's extension are in: The Swede is cashing in
The Canucks broke social media when they announced that Elias Pettersson had finally been inked to an enormous extension. The team issued a formal statement announcing the franchise's biggest contract ever:
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that the club has agreed to terms with forward Elias Pettersson on an eight-year contract.
There had been an enormous amount of speculations in the last few days regarding how much the Swede would be fetching on his next contract. Pettersson will carry an $11.6M cap hit over the next eight years, including an entire no-movement clause and massive signing bonuses:
8 years x $11.6 million AAV for Elias Pettersson
Elias Pettersson's #canucks extension includes a full NMC and $47M of the $92.8M paid out in signing bonuses
Haters will say it's an overpayment, but to get a player who's about to have back-to-back 100 points season before turning 25 under contract for the next eight years is already a steal. The fact that he's agreed to sign at $11.6M indeed shows how he's commited to take the Canucks to the highest stages.
Now that this extension is dealt with, the Canucks will now have another load of contracts to deal with. Filip Hronek should top the list, but Elias Lindholm, Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger shouldn't be much further behind.
