There had been an enormous amount of speculations in the last few days regarding how much the Swede would be fetching on his next contract. Pettersson will carry an $11.6M cap hit over the next eight years, including an entire no-movement clause and massive signing bonuses:
Haters will say it's an overpayment, but to get a player who's about to have back-to-back 100 points season before turning 25 under contract for the next eight years is already a steal. The fact that he's agreed to sign at $11.6M indeed shows how he's commited to take the Canucks to the highest stages.
Now that this extension is dealt with, the Canucks will now have another load of contracts to deal with. Filip Hronek should top the list, but Elias Lindholm, Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger shouldn't be much further behind.
