An insider has shared some new details into Rick Tocchet's future and that his next stop might not be as a head coach with a National Hockey League team.

Following Rick Tocchet's departure from the Vancouver Canucks at the end of April, many have been wonder what the future would hold for him and where he may end up next season.
Understandably, many would have expected Rick Tocchet to land back behind an NHL bench, potentially with the Philadelphia Flyers, and while being a head coach is still a very strong possibility, it looks like another intriguing opportunity has been presented to the 61-year-old.

Rick Tocchet has big decision to make for 2025-26 season

During a recent appearance on Donnie & Dhali with Rick Dhaliwal and Don Taylor on Monday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman shared that while there is a lot of interest in Rick Tocchet from teams around the NHL, some people have suggested that a return to television on a full-time basis is a possibility.
"Seattle wants him but I am not convinced he wants to go there, he is high on Philly radar but not sure that happens, the Canucks offered 4 millions-ish, don't see the Bruins going there. People are saying don't rule out TV for him." Dhaliwal said on X, paraphrasing Elliotte Friedman from Monday's show.

Tocchet has plenty of experience on television as he spent time with NHL on TNT before joining the Vancouver Canucks in January 2023 and this past weekend, returned to their panel for two days of their 2025 Stanley Cup Playoff coverage.
Regarding the interest in his services from a coaching standpoint, On Monday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that, at this point, Rick Tocchet appears to be interviewing teams rather than him being interviewed, essentially seeing what the options are for him and if the fit - whether it's Boston, Philadelphia or Seattle, makes sense.
"The line I heard on Tocchet is, he's not interviewing with teams, he's interviewing teams. Basically, he's interviewing them more than they're interviewing him, so I'm curious to see what's gonna end up here (...) I think Seattle had a lot of interest in him; I'm not convinced that's gonna happen. I don't know about Philly. I think he's very high on their list, but I'm not sure what's gonna happen there." Friedman said on 32 Thoughts.

It's going to be very interesting to see where Rick Tocchet ends up next season and as mentioned, with the amount of teams vying for his services, it seems more likely than not that he'll be back behind the bench in the National Hockey League.
