An NHL insider has given an update on Tuesday regarding Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin's search for center help on the trade market.

The Vancouver Canucks have been on the look out for center help since June, as Patrik Allvin was seeking someone who could fill the second line role that was left by J.T. Miller after his trade to the New York Rangers.
Ultimately, the Canucks were unable to find a second line centerman, or any center for that matter, in the offseason, with David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reporting last month that the club never came close to bringing one in.
"I wish I had some sexy names to throw at you. I don't. Nothing that was overly impactful or anything that felt like it was getting close. I'm sure like every team, you do your due diligence, that's part of your job, you go out there, you poke around, you start to...like around that time of year you hear names that team's are necessarily shopping, but teams are poking around on and they kind of let that name kind of get out there a little bit and it leads to nothing, because there's nothing there." Pagnotta said.

He added, "I think the Canucks certainly tried to, you know, comb the market and see what was out there in terms of the center position. I just don't think they got close on anything."

With the Canucks' injury situation starting to spiral out of control a little bit, with Nils Hoglander, who is out until mid-December, and Filip Chytil on the sidelines, the team has expanded their search on the trade market from just a second line centerman to a middle-six forward, Pagnotta reported last week.
"The Vancouver Canucks are believed to be looking for a middle-six forward to add to their roster due to winger Nils Hoglander missing the next eight-to-ten weeks because of an injury. Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been exploring options, according to separate league sources, but it is unclear if a move is imminent." Pagnotta said.

During Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading, Darren Dreger of TSN shared that the Canucks are amping up their search for center help and because of their injury issues.
Dreger added that Patrik Allvin is looking at all his possibilities to add someone to his NHL roster including third or fourth line centermen that could slide up into a top-six or middle-six role, if necessary.
"That's why you see Allvin talking publicly about the need to do something at centre ice. The problem is that there are so many other NHL clubs also looking for a No. 2 or No. 3 centre. So, the market is incredibly thin in that area and Allvin knows that." Dreger said.

He added, So, some are wondering around the league if Allvin is just going to simply add a depth piece. Maybe there's a centre on another club that seems to be a misfit or a third or fourth-line centre in that organization but has the capability to elevate and be a No. 2 or 3 centre.

The Canucks, at this stage, are looking at every possibility, and that includes engaging with another club for a No. 3 or 4 centre on their roster."

At this point, it feels like Patrik Allvin is going to be forced into making a trade and with teams knowing how desperate the Canucks are given their situation, the price may increase and cost the club more than they would like.
