Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser is likely headed to the free agent market on Canada Day and his time with the organization could very well be over.
With the Vancouver Canucks' 2024-25 season now concluded and end-of-year press conferences are done, the focus will now shift towards the offseason as the club looks to find ways to bounce back and become a playoff team next spring.
About a week before their season wrapped up, pending free agent forward Brock Boeser
confirmed to Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet that this season was likely going to be his last as a Vancouver Canuck and it appears that the team is preparing for that possibility heading into the summer.
Vancouver Canucks' Brock Boeser to reportedly test free agent market
In the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, it was revealed
the Vancouver Canucks made a contract offer to Brock Boeser that was for five-years and worth $40 million USD ($8 million AAV), but that was reportedly turned down as as the pending UFA is seeking a longer-term deal.
The two sides were unable to come to an agreement before March 7th's trade deadline and many expected Boeser to be moved, but after 12 pm PT passed, Patrik Allvin spoke with reporters and said that the value just wasn't there to make a deal worth it involving the former 40-goal scorer.
Flash forward nearly seven weeks and there's been a pretty big update on the Brock Boeser unrestricted free agency front from Farhan Lalji of TSN.
In a post on X on Monday, Lalji shared that the Vancouver Canucks have told Brock Boeser that he's earned the right to become an unrestricted free agent and if he's unable to get the contract he wants from another team that they will circle back and check in on him.
"On the Boeser topic, #Canucks have told him that he has earned the right to be a free agent, but they will keep the door open to his return. If he doesn't get the deal he's looking for on July 1 they will circle back." Lalji said.
If this is the end of the road for Brock Boeser as a Vancouver Canuck, fans will remember him as one of the best players to ever don the blue, green and white.
Boeser finishes his tenure in British Columbia 12th on the Vancouver Canucks' all-time points list (434 pts), eighth all-time in goals (204) and 18th in assists (230).
We'll have to see what the free agent market brings on Canada Day, but if Boeser isn't able to get what he's searching for and if Vancouver is unable to find a good replacement, the two sides should absolutely come back to the drawing board and get something done.
