Patrik Allvin Opens Up About the Pressures of Being the Vancouver Canucks General Manager
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin recently opened up about the pressure the team is facing ahead of the NHL's 2025-26 season.
It's been a busy summer for the Vancouver Canucks, with General Manager Patrik Allvin trading for Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers, giving Thatcher Demko & Conor Garland contract extensions, while Brock Boeser decided at the last minute to remain with the club, inking a seven-year deal.
After missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks are under immense pressure to perform this year, especially with those moves made in the offseason and it's something that Patrik Allvin acknowledged in a recent interview with Sportsnet.
Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin admits team is under pressure this season
During an interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre while at the NHL GM and Coaches Meetings in Detroit, Patrik Allvin spoke about his team entering the 2025-26 season and said that he believes there is pressure for him and his players this season as they look to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Allvin added that he wants to put the best roster together that he can in order to give his group an opportunity to win and with the addition of Evander Kane, Brock Boeser sticking around, and guys like Elias Pettersson, Thatcher Demko and Filip Chytil back at full health, he believes in his team and their ability to perform this year.
"I'm not sure if urgency is the right word. But there is pressure. I just feel for my players, too, that I want to provide them -- and especially the players who have been here for several years -- I want to provide the best roster I can for the players to have a chance to win. And for the fans." Allvin said.
He added, "I definitely believe with (Thatcher) Demko, Quinn (Hughes), Elias (Pettersson) and Brock Boeser... there's a lot of talented players and I need to build out the roster. I wouldn't say urgency, but as a general manager the pressure comes on you because what you realize in the NHL is the years are just flying by."

While the Vancouver Canucks might not be the best team in the Pacific Division, they certainly have the opportunity to finish in a top-three spot if everything clicks and everyone stays healthy.
With training camp less than two weeks away, it's only a matter of time before we see if Patrik Allvin's gambles this summer pay off or if fans will be looking at another disappointing season, one without playoff hockey for the Vancouver Canucks once again.
