Perfect replacement for Joshua identified: Canucks looking for Canadian grit?
Patrik Allvin has an essential load of work for his Canucks, with plenty of players to replace.
Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov and Dakota Joshua are all big pieces of the Canucks' lineup who are expected to hit the free agency market. Allvin will be unable to retain everyone and will have to look at potential replacements to fill these voids.
The Canucks' unicorn, Dakota Joshua, may be the most complex piece to replace. Not only was a player that could accomplish a lot of task for Rick Tocchet, but he did so winning a near league-minimum salary. Up for a massive pay raise, replacing him with a player who could get a similar contract to what he previously had will be tough.
One name circulating and generating intriguing conversations is Hurricanes veteran Jordan Martinook.
Jordan Martinook is a name to keep an eye on if the #Canucks lose Dakota Joshua.
The former Vancouver Giant is a Tocchet-type player. Scrappy is the forechecking wall guy and provides depth scoring.
Projected to sign at 3 years x $2.77M via 6
At 31, the Brandon, Manitoba native has 641 regular-season NHL games. He made a name for himself through his work ethic and commitment, which perfectly fit Rick Tocchet's mindset. With the Hurricanes in 2023-2024, Martinook scored 14 goals and 32 points in 82 regular season games, all while being extremely important to the team's defensive zone missions and penalty kill. He added 4 points in 11 playoff games.
