After a strong year with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey league (WHL) and now coming into his 20-year-old season, promising young Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio has sent a direct message to General Manager Patrik Allvin and the organization.

After the Vancouver Canucks selected Sawyer Mynio 89th overall in the third-round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, the 20-year-old stay at home defenseman has really continued to impress the organization.
Along with being named to Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior U-20 Championships and being traded to the Calgary Hitmen halfway through the WHL season, the touted defensive defenseman who lacked offense ability really played above his draft level.
In 48 games split between the Seattle Thunderbirds and Hitmen, he scored 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points. He also added three international games to his belt, playing with Team Canada, scoring just 1 assist once top draft pick Matthew Schaefer went down with an injury.

Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio wants to make the jump to professional hockey

Now that he is entering these "over-aging" years of junior hockey, the 3rd-round pick sent a message to the Vancouver Canucks and general manager Patrik Allvin.
He said in a recent interview that wants to leave the Hitmen and take his shot at pro hockey, even though he is aware that he would be likely starting in the AHL or worst case scenario the ECHL.
«Abbotsford [Canucks in the AHL] is the place to start and just work my way up from there,» said Mynio, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound, left-shot defenseman.

«Hopefully, play some NHL games this year and if not it's something to work toward for the year after that.»

Always trying to improve his craft, the youngster was asked about which areas of his game he aims to improve this season in order to crack the big club in Vancouver.
«The physicality side of my game and the strength,» said Mynio, who was traded to the Hitmen from the Seattle Thunderbirds in January prior to the WHL trade deadline.

«I'm a kind of an undersized D-man in today's game, but my speed is the thing that can help me out, and making plays.»

With just a couple weeks left of the offseason, Mynio is fully expected to participate in Canucks training camp, which officially begins on Sept. 18 in Penticton.
