A former top-five pick has been named as a potential fit for the Vancouver Canucks' second line center hole, an area that the team needs to address this summer.

The month of June is officially upon us and we're inching closer to the NHL Entry Draft and the start of free agency and leading up to those two big events, rumors will continue to be swirling around the league.
For the Vancouver Canucks, who are expected to be aggressive this summer, Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford have a number of holes that need to be filled on the NHL roster, the biggest being the second line center position, which the team used a number of players in following the J.T. Miller trade in January.

Former fifth overall pick named as possible fit for Vancouver Canucks

In recent weeks, a a number of possible targets have emerged for the Vancouver Canucks to consider trading for including Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks, Pavel Zacha of the Boston Bruins and Jared McCann of the Seattle Kraken.
Throughout June, more and more names will continue to pop up for the Canucks to potentially target and in a recent article on The Athletic, Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance suggest former fifth overall pick and 2019 Stanley Cup champion Brayden Schenn.
Dayal and Drance shared that while there is some risk in acquiring Brayden Schenn, notably his contract situation and his age, the Saskatoon native would be a leader in the team's dressing room and brings a scoring touch, which the team will need next season
"There's risk associated with a potential Schenn acquisition, given his age and the term remaining on his $6.5 million (AAV) contract which won't expire until after the 2027-28 campaign. Schenn, however, is an assertive physical presence and a top notch leader in the locker room, traits that the Canucks might understandably prioritize after what happened last season." Dayal and Drance said.

They went on to add, "Beyond Schenn's goal scoring touch and physical, pugnacious style of play; Schenn would potentially offer some sneaky value to a Canadian franchise acquiring him this summer."

Trade Proposal
The Canucks could be willing to offer a fairly large package to get Brayden Schenn that would include Nils Hoglander and a first round pick and a young prospect. With a team with loads of salary cap space, his $6.5 million would not become a major factor.
The Canucks lack leadership and a veteran presence in the room that knows how to win, and Schenn is the exact player and leader they need to deal with all the off-ice distraction that are inevitable in the Vancouver market.
In 82 games this season for the St. Louis Blues, Schenn put up 50 points (18 goals, 32 assists), 61 penalty minutes and was a plus-three, while helping his team reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2022.
Schenn could be solid addition to the Vancouver Canucks' lineup for a number of reasons, but the experience and knowledge he'd bring to a younger core featuring Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes would be invaluable.
