Minnesota Wild forward Yakov Trenin wasn't too pleased with the officials during Saturday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks after being ejected.

The Vancouver Canucks began their final homestand of the 2024-25 season on Saturday night as they welcomed the Minnesota Wild to Rogers Arena as the latter looked to solidify their place in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Prior to Saturday's game, the Canucks were forced to call-up two players from the AHL under emergency conditions, with Ty Mueller making his NHL debut.

Derek Forbort suffers injury following dangerous punch from Yakov Trenin

Last night's game between Minnesota and Vancouver got pretty heated early in the third period, with Wild forward Yakov Trenin finding himself ejected following a dangerous punch on Derek Forbort.
Just over four minutes into the third period, Trenin and Forbort dropped the mitts and after the fight concluded, with the Canucks blueliner on the ice, the Wild forward threw a late punch to the head of his opponent, who was not expecting it whatsoever.
Forbort was in some discomfort following the late and quite frankly dirty punch from Yakov Trenin, who received a two-minute minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, a five-minute major for fighting and a ten-minute misconduct for being the aggressor.
After the officials determined what the penalties were going to be called, Yakov Trenin was incensed with the decision, trying to get at the referee while being escorted off the ice.
"Yakov Trenin was NOT happy with the referee's decision 😳"
After the game, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet and defenseman Marcus Pettersson spoke about the incident, saying Trenin's punch was one of the worst things they've ever seen.
"Marcus Pettersson called the Trenin punch on Forbort one of the worst things he's seen. Said he didn't like it at all." Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet said on X.
Tocchet told reporters that he didn't have an update on Derek Forbort, which is likely because he was still being evaluated by the team's medical staff following the game.
"Rick Tocchet agreed with Marcus Pettersson's assessment that the Yakov Trenin punch on Derek Forbort was one of the worst things he's seen. Said he didn't have an update on Forbort." Batchelor said.
As of 7:30 am PT on Sunday, there has yet to be a decision from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety on supplemental discipline for Yakov Trenin, but it wouldn't be a surprise if receives, at least, a fine for his actions.
The Canucks would go on to blow a 2-0 lead and lose in overtime by a score of 3-2, with their next game set for Monday night against the San Jose Sharks.
