A Vancouver Canucks defensive prospect will reportedly finish up his junior hockey career this spring and head down south to the NCAA for the 2026-27 season.
The regular season across the three major junior leagues in Canada - OHL, QMJHL & WHL - is starting to wind down, with several Vancouver Canucks prospects hoping for a deep run in the playoffs this spring.
Throughout the course of the 2025-26 season, we've seen a number of those prospects take their game to the next level, such as forward Riley Patterson, who recorded a five-point game on Thursday for the OHL's Niagara IceDogs, while defenseman Parker Alcos is hitting his stride after being traded in the Western Hockey League last month.
Thanks to his strong play, it appears that the Vancouver Canucks will have another prospect head to the NCAA from the CHL, following in the footsteps of Anthony Romani, who went from the OHL's Barrie Colts to Michigan State University.

If Alcos officially commits to Quinnipiac before June 1st, which is almost a guarantee following today's report, then the Vancouver Canucks will retain his signing rights until at least June 1st, 2028 and as late as August 15th, 2030, according to Dave Hall of Canucks Army.
"RE: Parker Alcos:
If he commits by June 1, 2026, his rights would extend to June 1,2028. It’s possible it could be until Aug 15, 2030.
For players drafted before 2027 we still don’t know if it’s just an extra 2 years or if it’s until graduation. #Canucks" Hall said on X.

Alcos, 19, has skated in 46 games this season for the Edmonton Oil Kings and Kelowna Rockets, the latter of whom are hosting the 2026 Memorial Cup, registering 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) and 40 penalty minutes along the way.
An official announcement from Parker Alcos and Quinnipiac might not come until the end of the 2025-26 season, as was the case with Anthony Romani & Michigan State University, as his commitment wasn't made public by the school until after the Barrie Colts were eliminated from the OHL Playoffs.
