A new report out last week suggests that Jake DeBrusk's camp was not too pleased with the Vancouver Canucks' decision to healthy scratch him in late December.
It's been a difficult season for Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk, who is currently in his second year with the club and has registered just 22 points in 47 games.
Late last month, amid his offensive struggles, the Vancouver Canucks decided to make Jake DeBrusk a healthy scratch, something he called embarrassing and admitted that he was pissed off, mainly about how he was playing and that he wasn't able to help his team.
"It's embarrassing. I mean, anytime you miss a game, it's, yeah, it's embarrassing. I'd be wrong if I wasn't saying I'd be pissed off right now, but I understand. And I need a jolt too, I obviously haven't been good enough. Anytime that you're in this position, it's lots of things. So, you know, I gotta control what I can do from this point forward and just worry about me. I think there's a lot of different things. The good thing about this situation, in my previous times being scratched, you have a clean slate. So I care less about what has happened." DeBrusk said.
Jake DeBrusk's camp reportedly not happy with team's decision to make him a healthy scratch
As the calendar flipped to 2026, Jake DeBrusk began to pick up the pace offensively, scoring three goals in the first four games this month, but has gone goalless in his last five contests.
In his recent trade board on Sportsnet, Nick Kypreos reported that Jake DeBrusk's camp was not happy with the healthy scratch and that there are already teams showing interest in him with less than two months to go until the trade deadline.
"Jake DeBrusk was made a healthy scratch on Dec. 29 and word is that did not sit well with his camp and it made rival teams aware that there might be some issues here. When DeBrusk signed as a free agent with Vancouver in 2024 he had as many as 14 teams after him with four-to-six year contract offers and teams are making calls on him now. There's blood in the water and sharks are circling this team." Kypreos said.
The Edmonton, Alberta native has five years remaining on his contract following the 2025-26 campaign, which comes with a cap hit of $5.5 million and a full no-movement clause through 2027.
Any trade would need to be approved by Jake DeBrusk and at this point, with the direction the organization is heading, it wouldn't be a surprise to anyone if he wanted a fresh start elsewhere.
