Elias Pettersson revealed that he'd been dealing with the injury since February which perfectly correlated with the time at which his production and quality of his play dipped. With a whole summer to address his health issues, the Canucks sure hoped that he'd be able to go back to 100%, but the update he gave stated something else.
In an interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, Pettersson opened up on his injury and revealed that he'd felt better than when he left for the off-season. He did, however, reveal that the injury prevented him from working out at 100% and even added that he still felt pain from time to time:
After signing the biggest contract in Canucks' history, the expectations are high for Elias Pettersson after he failed to produce at the end of the regular season and during the playoffs.
In 2022-2023, Pettersson lit Vancouver up with a stellar 102-point production over 80 games but had a ''down'' end of the season in 2023-2024 and ended with 89 points in 82 outings. Then produced a shallow 6 points in 13 playoff matches. Everybody is expecting a bounce-back year for the Canucks' number 40, and he has $11.6M reason to get it done.
