A trade proposal was shared recently that would see the Vancouver Canucks finally land some center help by way of a former first round pick currently on the Boston Bruins.
As the Vancouver Canucks get set to open up training camp tomorrow, followed by the preseason on Sunday evening, Patrik continues to search the market for a suitable second line centerman for his club.
While the Canucks are more than comfortable with Filip Chytil in that second line center role to begin the season, if an opportunity pops up to upgrade at that position, Patrik Allvin is going to consider it.
Among the options the Vancouver Canucks have reportedly considered this summer, but have struck out on, include Marco Rossi, Christian Dvorak and Mikael Granlund, however, there is one player, who is a former first round pick, to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
Former first round pick dealt to Vancouver Canucks in recent trade proposal
In a recent article for Heavy.com, Michael DeRosa suggested a trade that would see the Vancouver Canucks acquire 2017 eighth overall pick Casey Mittelstadt.
The cost to acquire Mittelstadt, who has two years left on his contract, isn't going to be cheap, with DeRosa's trade proposal seeing the Boston Bruins land Swedish forward Nils Hoglander and a 2026 second-round pick in return.
"Overall, the Canucks' roster looks solid on paper heading into the new season. Yet, after losing Suter in free agency, there is no question that they could use another skilled center. The Boston Bruins have an interesting potential option in Casey Mittelstadt." DeRosa said.
He added, "Canucks Get: Casey Mittelstadt
Bruins Get: Nils Hoglander, 2026 Second-Round Pick"
Mittelstadt, a native of Edin Prairie, Minnesota, is coming off the third 40+ point campaign of his NHL career after splitting his time last year with the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins, the latter of whom acquired him at the trade deadline as part of the Charlie Coyle deal.
While 26-year-old would be a good fit for the Canucks, especially if they're able to move out the necessary money to bring him to Vancouver, at the end of the day, it'll depend on if the team feels he's an upgrade at the 2C hole over Filip Chytil.
