With the Vancouver Canucks officially having to look for their next head coach, they may be prepared to only look as far as Abbotsford.
Now, the hunt for his replacement takes off in full force.
Manny Malhotra a serious candidate for the job in Vancouver
In his second stint with the Vancouver Canucks during his post-playing career, Manny Malhotra is in the midst of his first playoff run as AHL head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks.
Despite a number of their top players being shuttled to and from the NHL roster due to injuries, Abbotsford still managed to finish second in the AHL's Pacific Division, and won their first round series against Tucson during this year's playoffs.
According to President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford, Malhotra has impressed the Canucks' brass and he's considered a candidate in the search for Tocchet's replacement.
Jim Rutherford says Manny Malhotra will «certainly» be on the shortlist to be the new #Canucks head coach.
Malhotra took over the job from Jeremy Colliton at the end of the 2023-24 season, leaving an assistant coaching gig with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 44 year old previously spent 2017-2020 as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks, and as a player suited up for the Canucks for 3 seasons starting in 2010.
