After an underwhelming season for the Vancouver Canucks, fans are worried that captain Quinn Hughes will not be a Canuck once his contract expires at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Considering how the season has gone, and the ongoing speculation that Quinn Hughes would like to play with his two brothers Jack and Luke at some point, there is a very solid chance Quinn Hughes decides to leave the Canucks if they can't get back to the playoffs come the «deadline» of his contract.

Fans are worried that captain Quinn Hughes will part ways with the Vancouver Canucks

Stephan Roget from the Canucks Army writes that it's all about the Vancouver Canucks putting together the best possible team while Hughes is still at his best.
If the only concern were the Canucks being competitive before Hughes exits his prime, there'd be no concern at all. Hughes will still be in his prime for many years to come. But what Hughes will not be for many years to come is in his prime and still under the same contract terms to which he's currently signed. -Roget

Hughes current contract carries an AAV of $7.85 million, which covers the 2025/26 and 2026/27 campaigns. After, he'll be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.
But what we're here to tell you all today is that the actual window, the actual 'Hughes Deadline,' is coming a lot sooner than most realize. How soon? -Roget

Management will have their hands full this off-season to try and assemble a more competitive team that can actually compete for the Stanley Cup as early as next season.
Thus, while we wouldn't ever want to say that everything is riding on a single offseason, A LOT is riding on the Summer of 2025 for the Canucks' front office. Even with two years left on his contract, and as counterintuitive as it sounds, in many ways, this is their last chance to convince Hughes to stay. -Roget

The mission to ensure that 'deadline' doesn't hit starts immediately.
