Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has opened up about his slow start to the 2025-26 season and how he's feeling one month into the new campaign.

All summer long, Elias Pettersson said that he was going to be better this season and that he was "out for revenge" after registering just 45 points last year, which was the second-lowest single-season total of his National Hockey League career to date.
Even though the Sundsvall, Sweden native has ten points this season, his play overall hasn't been great and he isn't shooting the puck nearly as often as he has earlier in his career, which is a little concerning, but the Swedish forward is focused on getting better and doing whatever it takes for his team to get the two points night in, night out.

Elias Pettersson speaks about tough start to 2025-26 season, determined to be better

This week, Elias Pettersson was interviewed by Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre where he opened up on his play to start the 2025-26 season, how he's feeling and what he can do to improve in the short and long-term to help the Vancouver Canucks win.
As mentioned, one area where Elias Pettersson doesn't look like his normal self is in the shooting department as entering Saturday's action, he has just 23 in 15 games, an average of 1.53 per night, which simply isn't good enough.
Pettersson recognizes that he needs to shoot the puck more often, but believes he's always been a pass-first player and is looking for someone who might have a better opportunity to score than him while on the ice.
"I agree, I can shoot more. There's nothing hindering me from shooting. I think I've always been a pass-first guy, and if I think I could put someone else in a better position to score, then I always do that. That's how I see the game. I've always been like that. But I also know I have a good shot." Pettersson said to MacIntyre.

He added, "Definitely, I think, it's a mindset that I can be better at. Like, I know I have a good shot, but maybe I haven't scored as much lately, so I'm trying to find a good pass instead. It's a mindset. I know I can score, but yeah, I'm always trying to find the perfect play."

If Pettersson can be just a tad more selfish on the ice and find a way to double his shot production per game, then not only is it going to increase his chances to score, but also the team's chances of getting the win, something that the Vancouver Canucks desperately need right now to avoid falling further out of the playoff race ahead of American Thanksgiving.
