Thatcher Demko has had a very difficult past three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, starting in only approximately 30% of the games over three years, and now being shut down for the rest of this year by Patrick Allvin due to a hip injury that requires surgery.

It could be time for the Canucks to move on from Demko at the end of this season, his injury proneness has become a problem.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin commented on the news shortly after the announcement saying that after consulting with doctors and medical professionals, this was the best course of action to ensure Demko will be ready to go for training camp in mid-September."-Jaxon

Should the Vancouver Canucks trade Thatcher Demko?

Jeff Paterson posted on X Patrick Allvin's comments regarding Demko's status. Demko cannot seem to stay healthy, and it will affect the Canucks down the road when they become competitive again. They could look toward trading him for a very good return and use to accelerate their rebuild rather than relying on him to stay healthy.
"After consulting with our team doctors and outside specialists, Thatcher Demo will be shut down for the rest of the year," said Alvin. "Thatcher will undergo surgery next week for an injury unrelated to the one that kept him out of action last season. Following his rehab, he will be ready for the start of training camp
in September."
The NHL has had a shortage of good goaltending for a while now, ten years ago that wasn't an issue, but now teams are struggling to find number one goaltenders. Meaning there will be a team willing to take a chance on Demko and his health issues. The Canucks can leverage that for a great return, multiple draft picks and a good young player. When Demko is healthy he is one of the best in the league, and there are definitely some teams willing to roll the dice on him.
