Vancouver Canucks have apparently found their new starting goalie
With just over a week into the season and the Vancouver Canucks finally reaching their first win against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers, the goalie battle between Artur Silovs and Kevin Lankinen has been in full swing, but now, the team seems to have found their starter.
With the Canucks true starter in Thatcher Demko still on the sidelines with a nagging knee injury, Vancouver has been forced to look elsewhere to find their go to guy in hopes that he will lead them moving forward, at least until Demko is back.
Arturs Silovs was solid option at the end of the year for the Canuks last season but has failed to continue that caliber of play heading into this season. In his two starts so far, he has looks overwhelmed and has achieved a 4.50 goals against average with a less than impressive 0.827 save percentage.
Kevin Lankinen has to be starting goalie moving forward... At least for now
He has put forward two quality starts. The Finnish goalie currently has a .932% save percentage and has allowed just four goals.
Kevin Lankinen has been a competent NHL goalie for the last 4 seasons now, and the fact the Canucks were able to go out and sign him to a fairly cheap deal is pretty baffling, especially for how he has performed this season.
In just 2 games, but Kevin Lankinen now 1-0-1 with a 1.89 GAA and a 93.2% save percentage in his two starts with #Canucks. Held Flyers and Panthers to 2 goals apiece. One even-strength goal against in each start. - (Per Jeff Paterson
Even if you are not going off of pure numbers between Silovs and Lankinen, the latter has passed the eye test way more than than Silovs, and with securing the teams first win of the season, it seems like a no brainer to go back to him moving forward.
