Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet's Future Officially in Doubt in Recent Report
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet could be on the hot seat if the team does not turn around their season while playing at home in Rogers Arena.
There is no question the Vancouver Canucks have struggled greatly at home this season, and the only reason they are currently in playoff contention is due to their unbelievable 10-2-1 record on the road.
Sitting with 32 points and tied with the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Standings, fans may think that there is nothing to worry about, but the next 6 of 8 games are on home ice, which poses a major problem.
Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet Might Be On the Hot Seat
Even though Rick Tocchet won the Jack Adams Award last season as the NHL best head coach, with recent firing of Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, it dictates that record and ability are not enough to save you from getting fired.
But is Rick Tocchet's job really at risk?
In reality, probably not, by the way the season is going at home, it is seriously affecting the Canucks chances at making the play offs.
At the start of the season, MoneyPuck gave the Canucks a hefty 80.4% chance at making the postseason. This made sense as the team was coming off an incredible 2023-24 season that saw them finish first in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-9 record and 109 points. That ranked as the third-best season in franchise history.
Now, according to MoneyPuck, the Vancouver Canucks chances have decreased by nearly 20%, only now having a 63.2% at making the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Tocchet's biggest criticism is his inability to keep the same lineup gamer after game.
Constant line shuffling and not giving players enough time to develop chemistry with one another can attribute to their struggles.
It is hard to find an identity when there is so much movement, Tocchet needs to figure out what he feels the issues are at home because their playoffs depend on it.
