Former Vancouver Canucks captain & President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden says Elias Pettersson needs to start taking ownership of where he's at.

After a very tough 2024-25 season, which included a rift with former teammate J.T. Miller, Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is looking to work extremely hard this offseason in order to return to top form when the puck drops in October.
Trade rumors continue to float regarding the Swedish forward, especially after General Manager Patrik Allvin said that he'd be stupid not to keep his options open and it's going to be interesting to see what happens this summer, with one former Canuck recently sharing where he's at with Elias Pettersson.

Former Vancouver Canuck Trevor Linden shares his thoughts on Elias Pettersson

During a recent appearance on Donnie & Dhali, former Vancouver Canucks captain and President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden shared his thoughts on Elias Pettersson and if he believes he'll be able to bounce back next season.
Linden, who was President of Hockey Operations when the Canucks drafted Pettersson in 2017, says he thinks the Swedish forward will be able to bounce back next season
"I mean, yeah, you've got to hope so. The commitment the team made to him is obviously significant, they're banking on this guy to be the player. I'm not sure exactly what goes on with Elias. Obviously I knew him, we drafted him and spent some time with him that last year I was there." Linden said.

He added, "Clearly, I think he's really got to take ownership of where he's at and where he needs to be. You read some of the comments, I don't know if there's a rift between Danny & Hank [Daniel & Henrik Sedin], that seems crazy to me.

But he needs to step up as a pro and step up as a professional and deliver, I mean he's capable of it for sure, but there's just times where he just looks disengaged and uninterested, and that's concerning."
Trevor Linden absolutely has a point, especially when it comes to Pettersson needing to step it up and deliver for the organization as they've committed a lot of money and term to him and since he's put pen to paper, that contract has looked like one of, if not the worst in the NHL.
On the flip side, everyone is hoping that Elias Pettersson has a massive summer and comes back to Vancouver for training camp with a chip on his shoulder, ready to prove everyone wrong and that he is capable of being that 100-point player we all know he can be.
