Vancouver Canucks Media Makes Wild Take About Their Worst and Best Jerseys Of All-Time
An insider recently revealed the best and worst jerseys worn by the Vancouver Canucks throughout their 55-year history in the National Hockey League.
The Vancouver Canucks have some of the most interesting and unique jersey designs in the history of the NHL and while some are beloved by many in the fan base, some aren't so well received.
In 2022, the team brought back one of the franchise's iconic looks the 'Black Skate' uniform as their permanent third jersey,
with the club wearing it 15 times during the 2024-25 campaign and some fans are hoping for it to return as the team's home jersey, along with a white version as the away, at some point in the years ahead.
While the Skate uniforms are among the favourites of Vancouver Canucks fans and those around the National Hockey League, it's left many wondering what the worst jersey ever worn by the team during their 55-year history and thanks to The Athletic, we got that answer recently.
Vancouver Canucks' best & worst jerseys in franchise history revealed
In a recent article on The Athletic a writer representing each of the National Hockey League's 32 franchises (Thomas Drance for Vancouver) took a look at what they thought was the best and worst jersey worn in each team's respective history.
There were some interesting uniforms around the league that were ranked the worst, including the Montreal Canadiens' 1912-13 Barber Pole throwbacks - worn during their Centennial seasons, Florida's sun & palm tree Reverse Retro from 2022-23, along with the Calgary Flames' 2011 Heritage Classic sweater.
When it came to the Canucks, starting with their best uniform in franchise history, Drance chose the jerseys worn from 2007 to 2019 which featured not only the Orca logo, but also an arched "VANCOUVER" above.
However, for their worst uniform in franchise history, Drance believes that designation belongs to the Flying V sweaters worn by the team from 1978 to 1985, as they ditched their original, and now current, colour scheme of blue, green and white for a new look that featured black, red, yellow in a bold design, which can be seen below.
"The "Flying V" was designed in consultation with snake oil salespeople psychologists to be "aggressive," and it is definitely aggressively ugly. Mustard yellow, an unsightly two-colored V-shaped sash on the front, the spaghetti-plate flying skate on the shoulders and another "Flying V" on the pants. An absolute mess" Drance said.
The team's current uniforms seem perfect, from the logo, the jersey design, the colour scheme, etc., however it would be interesting to see if the organization would be open to considering a full rebrand, or going back to a retro look such as the Skate, in the years to come, which, as mentioned, is something some fans are hoping for.
