The Vancouver Canucks have had a roller coaster season, trading away their captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, and GM Patrick Allvin basically admitting to a rebuild without calling it that, it certainly makes Brock Boeser's decision to sign a seven year deal with the team, a terrible mistake.

Boeser is on track for his worst season to date and by the time the Canucks are ready to win again, he will be too old.
"Taj on X posted Boeser's comments on the night Hughes was traded. For Boeser he wasn't just losing a teammate, he was a losing a friend, they started their careers at the same time and have developed quite the bond."-Stinson

Brock Boeser might waste his career with the Vancouver Canucks.

Jim Precourt of the Hockey Writers reported on the series of unfortunate events for Boeser. Losing your best friend and captain on the team in Hughes was a big blow for him, and now with a rebuild in the works, it seems like Boeser will not get any competitive hockey for a while.
"The Canucks took a long road to get to this point. Years of misery, one phenomenal season of making the playoffs, making it to the second round, but injuries came to haunt them, and they lost to the Edmonton Oilers, and now they're back at the bottom of the league. Different coaches, different managers, and lastly, constantly trading core pieces and seeing them go."-Precourt

On top of that Boeser would be really difficult to trade, with a No Move Clause for the first few years of his contract, then moving to a 15 team No Trade Clause for the rest of his career. He would have to waive the NMC if he wants out of Vancouver, and would risk going to a team in an even worse situaiton.
"Granted, he can always waive his NMC and NTC beforehand if he feels unhappy, as the front office is generally good at getting things done in a timely fashion. However, this will still be a big blow for him, as he was an unrestricted free agent over the summer. Boeser could've left for a contender and taken the same amount of money, like Nikolaj Ehlers did, leaving the Winnipeg Jets for the Carolina Hurricanes (the Hurricanes are first in the Metropolitan Division, and Ehlers has 24 points)."-Precourt

It's unfortunate for Boeser, but it's the reality of pro sports. He deserves better, and hopefully he gets it whether it's with the Canucks or not.
