A major moment in the youngsters career is about to commence as recent call up Max Sasson may make his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday vs the Ottawa Senators.
When Vancouver Canucks top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki was sent down today, many wondered who would be replacing him as Brock Boeser is still on the injured reserve.
When the Canucks announced 24-year-old Max Sasson was going to be called up, many were surprised as he is not the blue chip prospect most would expect to get the call this early in the season.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today F Jonathan Lekkerimäki has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) and F Max Sasson has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL)." The Canucks said.
What does Max Sasson bring to the table for the Vancouver Canucks?
Given the fact that Sasson will be travelling with the Canucks on their 6-game road trip, it is a safe bet that he will be making his NHL debut in one of these upcoming games.
The 6'1 forward is having a great start to his AHL season with Abbotsford Canucks.
Going undrafted, he really has exceeded expectations up into this point.
In 16 games, he is tied on the team for points, recording 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points, with a +/- rating of -4.
Across his just over 2 year professional career and 56 games played, Sasson has already shown the organization what he is made of.
In that span, he's produced 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points and +/- rating of +14 rating.
Aside from his commendable work ethic, the left-shot forward's game is predicated on excellent speed, an ability to create separation, and good hockey instincts. He is projected as a solid two-way player in the bottom-six for an NHL team.
The hopes are clearly high for his NHL debut, but do not be surprised if it takes him a few games to get his legs under his belt.
As it appears, he most likely will be making his NHL debut on Saturday when the Vancouver Canucks go to the nations capital and face the Ottawa Senators.
