The Edmonton Oilers have sat on the sidelines watching everyone else make trades, until today. Edmonton Oilers General Manager Ken Holland has finally got himself that defenceman they've been looking for all season and he's a good one.
The Oilers acquired defenceman Mattias Ekholm and a 2024 sixth-round pick from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Tyson Barrie, Reid Schaefer a 2023 first, and a 2024 fourth. The Predators also have retained 4% of Ekholm's salary throughout his contract.
The 32-year-old is in the first year of a four-year deal that pays him $6.25 million annually. Ekholm will make a difference for the Oilers who have been defensively challenged some nights. Hopefully for them this changes now.
