LATEST | Local Top Draft Prospect already proclaimed a fan favorite: Should be available for the Canucks
The National Hockey League's Draft Combine in Buffalo came to a close on Saturday with more fitness testing and interviews with the media.
One name that has stood out among several members of the media is Andrew Cristall, who played in the Western Hockey League with the Kelowna Rockets and is a native of Burnaby.
Steven Ellis, a well-known prospect analyst who works for Daily Faceoff, says that Cristall has a great personality and will be a fan-favourite no matter where he gets drafted. Cristall is also drawing praise from other players in the Western Hockey League including from his best friend, Connor Bedard.
When Cristall sat down for his interview with the media, he told reporters that he spoke with 21 NHL teams during his week in Buffalo at the Combine. And when talking about his shot, he said he was able to learn a bit from Bedard, which certainly helped him during the 2022-23 season.
"I try and get different release points and learning how to change the angle a little bit. It's been good being able to learn from Connor (Bedard). I think it's definitely helped my shot tremendously." Cristall said.
Cristall, 18, had a fantastic draft season with Kelowna, putting up 95 points (39 goals, 56 assists), 50 penalty minutes and was a plus-18. He added one goal in four games during the playoffs.
In their final rankings, NHL Central Scouting has Andrew Cristall at 15th among North American skaters, so there's no doubt that he will be available for Patrik Allvin and the Canucks when they take to the podium in Nashville on June 28th.
