The Canucks inked J.T. Miller to a $56M contract before the present season after a career-high 99 points season. They've then decided to put all their fate toward the team's number 9 and it ultimately cost the captain's spot on the roster.

Even though Miller is 29 years old, he still has a lot to learn and it is suspected that one of the reasons that led to Tocchet's hiring was to assess those needs. Miller is known to be a heated-temper kind of guy and back in his playing days, so was Tocchet.
The sequence shows Miller losing his senses on Oli Maata in front of the Red Wings net. Miller ended up taking a bad penalty in the offensive zone that led to a 4-minute powerplay.
The hardcore Canucks' fans will have noticed a difference in Miller's game since Tocchet took over, there still is a lot of work to be done. Miller's engagement is definitely better, but his high level of competition and his hot head need to be turned into weapons he can use to his advantage and not to the team's disadvantage.
A player considered to be a leader needs to be better, what we want to see is the same guy that was throwing himself in front of pucks against the Isles. Although he has not been producing up to the standards he set last year, he still remains a prominent offensive threat with 47 points in 52 outings.
