Boston Bruins Trade Captain Brad Marchand in Shocking Deal
It's an end of an era in Boston as Bruins captain Brad Marchand is on the move to an Atlantic Division rival just before the trade deadline hit.
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has been
mentioned in trade rumors over the last little while now and while it felt like he would remain with the organization for his entire career, it looks like he's being dealt today.
Boston Bruins trade captain Brad Marchand to Atlantic Division rival
Just as the bell rang at 12 pm PT for the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2024-25 season, the Boston Bruins made a big splash.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Boston Bruins have traded their captain, Brad Marchand, to one of their Atlantic Division rivals, the Florida Panthers.
"#FlaPanthers have agreed to a trade with #NHLBruins to acquire Brad Marchand. They're in the trade call queue." Seravalli said.
Marchand, 36, was selected 71st overall by the Boston Bruins during the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and has gone on to appear in 16 seasons with the B's before Friday's trade.
In 1,090 career games as a Boston Bruin, the Halifax, Nova Scotia native had 976 points (422 goals, 554 assists) and 1,113 penalty minutes, while helping them win the Stanley Cup in 2011 against the Vancouver Canucks.
Marchand is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and his future in Boston was unclear, even if he wasn't dealt before today, so it's going to be interesting to see where he ends up this summer or if he'll stay in Florida, but it's too early to tell.
