Trade Alert: Rutger McGroarty finally traded by the Jets, the first rounder is on the move
It caused a stir when the Jets' first-round selection from the 2022 draft announced that he wouldn't report to the team.
Elliotte Friedman just broke the news that Rutger McGroarty had been sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The return has not yet been disclosed.
The 14th overall pick of the 2022 Draft has been going through a steady development at the NCAA level with Michigan University. The scouting reports are pretty promising, and the American could shine under Sidney Crosby's guidance:
''McGroarty shines in the offensive zone, displaying elite goal-scoring and playmaking ability. He's a slick puck handler''
Through two seasons at the Collegiate level, the former first-rounder managed an impressive 91 points in only 75 games. He refused to sign with the Jets, but given that he's now been traded to the Penguins, it wouldn't be a surprise to watch him make his NHL debut this year.
UPDATE: Brayden Yager is involved in this deal.
