NHL legend Ray Ferraro was on Sekeres and Price earlier and made a really interesting argument on why the Canucks may be hesitant to pay Horvat the money he's due.

As many of you may know Ray Ferraro is, up to this day, Cammi Granato's (Assistant GM) husband. While he believes that team captain Bo Horvat has been having quite the season and is worth the raise he's looking for.

"Now you got the same team and you're just paying more money for it? How does that ever possibly advance you? It just doesn't."

He does make a fair point. If the Canucks chose to re-sign Horvat to the raise he asks, your team is not really improving, right? You still have that same line-up, only it costs you more money, how does that make any sense?

On the other hand, isn't it what progress is? Players enter the league with ELC, then you sign them to bigger contracts because they've gotten better over the years. Why wouldn't that logic apply to Horvat? He's improved his numbers in every aspect of the game and has brought himself to the next level. Why are the Canucks still hesitant?

Ferraro didn't stop there, in the interview he gave valuable details on the teams' behind-the-scene work:

''Between January 6th and the end of the month... Every team has gone through its strategy heading into the trade deadline ... Now their rubber hits the road and things are going to happen''

He believes that by the end of the month, teams will have decided who they mean to pursue. What their play is regarding, the trade market, upcoming free agents, NCAA players, amateur (CHL/European) players, and the contracts they want to hand these players. According to him, the trade market will heat up once we hit the beginning of February, when were only 3-4 weeks before the deadline.
