If you were to ask anyone in the hockey world if they thought the Seattle Kraken would push the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche to the brink of elimination, the majority of people would say no. But that's where we stand after the Kraken took a 3-2 series lead following a Game 5 win in Denver.
During the second period, MacKinnon was tripped by Seattle's Will Borgen, which went uncalled. MacKinnon was slow getting back to the bench, because he was giving it to the officials, which meant J.T. Compher was late getting onto the ice and into the play. On the same play, the Kraken went down and Tye Kartye, who was making his National Hockey League debut, scored his first goal, giving Seattle a 2-1 lead.
The series now shifts to Climate Pledge Arena tomorrow night where the Seattle Kraken will have the chance to eliminate the defending Stanley Cup champions. Good news for the Avalanche though, as they'll look to force a Game 7 back in Denver, is that defenceman Cale Makar will return after his one game suspension. Puck drop for Game 6 is set for 10 p.m. ET.
